What is MC4 cable?

MC4 cable is a special connector for solar panel array module. It has the features of reliable connection, waterproof and friction-proof, and easy to use. MC4 has strong anti-aging and anti-UV capabilities. The solar cable is connected by compression and tightening, and the male and female joints are fixed by stable self-locking mechanism, which can open and close quickly. MC indicates the connector type and 4 indicates the metal diameter.

What is an MC4 connector?

Solar cable connectors have become synonymous with photovoltaic connectors. MC4 can be used in the basic components of solar power, such as modules, converters and inverters, which bear the burden of successfully connecting a power plant

Because photovoltaic systems are exposed to rain, wind, sun and extreme temperature changes for long periods of time, connectors must adapt to these harsh environments. They must be water resistant, high temperature resistant, UV resistant, touch resistant, high current carrying capacity and efficient. Low contact resistance is also important. That’s why mc4 has a minimum life cycle of 20 years.

How to make Mc4 cable

MC4 Solar connectors are commonly used as MC4S. Male and female connectors consist of male and female connectors, male connectors, and female connectors. Male for female, female for male. There are five steps to making a photovoltaic cable connector. Tools we need: Wire stripper, wire crimper, open end wrench.

① Check whether the male core, female core, male head and female head are damaged.

② Use a wire stripper to strip off the insulation length of the photovoltaic cable (about 1cm) according to the length of the crimping end of the male or female core. Use a wire stripper (MM = 2.6) to strip off the 4-square photovoltaic cable to avoid damaging the core wires.

(3) Insert the PV cable core wire into the male (female) crimping end, use the crimping pliers, try to pull with appropriate strength, (pay attention to do not press the male (female) clamp.

④ Insert the female (male) buckle end into the cable first, and then insert the male (female) core into the female (male) core. When the card is inserted, the sound is heard, and then pull out with appropriate strength.

⑤ Use a wrench to tighten the cables correctly (do not use too much force, which may cause damage). The insulation length of the cables should be appropriate, so that the wires are inserted into the bottom of the terminals. Do not be too long or too short.
